Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Officer at The Technology and Management for Development Centre, 2 South Parks Road Oxford , part of the Oxford Department of International Development to work on the research project “Valuation of patents and start-ups in the pharmaceutical industry” (MED-VEST) under the direction of Professor Xiaolan Fu. This full-time post is tenable until 30 October 2021.
You will be required to undertake original research to develop theoretical and empirical models for the valuation of patents and start-ups in the pharmaceutical industry. As well as design research methods and analyse quantitative data from a variety of sources, review and refine theories as appropriate, publish the academic results of the projects in appropriate scholarly journals and presses. Write up practical user guidelines, collaborate with project partners and to act as a source of information to other members on methodologies, coordinate and co-lead research seminars, workshops and conferences and contribute to innovation and technology-related teaching in the department.
You will hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in economics; finance; science and technology studies; business and management studies; development studies. Possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes. You will also have relevant research experience, preferably relating to innovation finance, innovation economics, industry economics, asset pricing, or innovation in the pharmaceutical industry and the ability to manage own academic research and associated activities. As well as a strong research and publication record, especially using quantitative research skills and the ability to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings are also essential.
